Helping Kids with Math Work

Categories:

Today after I came home from work I was recruited to help one of the twins, with her math homework. I have helped  them  before in the past and we had a pretty good system.  You tell me what you are havinng problems with, and I will break it down so you can understand. The  twins are in the 3rd grade and working  with geometry already. Is this normal!? I thought they would be working with long mathmatics or something.
The crazy thing is that I didn’t know how to do some of my 8 year olds math problems. I’m thinking, If I can’t do it, what chance does an eight year old have. After a little while I started to get my legs back and figured out how to calculate the area of a circle and we finally finished. I was so relieved until she pulled out 6 pages of practice problems. I was like “This is for the entire week right!?”.  She she “no it’s due tommorrow. LOL! I was like :what the????” She had like 50 problems on each sheet. LOL! I couldn’t belileve it.

Maybe I’m just not up on things. I asked my wife when did the twins math get so hardemanding? She just shook her head. School work is very important in our home. But I never thought in a million year that 3rd graders would be expected to complete work this demanding. It’s definitely time for a tutor. I was talking about for me.

Can Your Computer Monitor Be Used as a 2-Way Camera?

Categories:

Among a small minority of conspiracy theorists there has always been a belief that our computer monitors have the capacity to be used as 2-way cameras. My initial thoughts were that these were just paranoid delusions of the foolish. To be fair, it is possible to use a speaker as microphone and vica versa. This is an experiment that is quit easy to do.

plugs.png

Seeing how both a speaker and a microphone are based on the same principles, all you would have to do is switch the plugs in the back of your computer to see this work. I’m not too sure of USB components but I know this will work with 1/4 inch jacks for the most part. Depending on the type of mic you use this may not work. But your speaker should work as a microphone without fault.

As fantastic as this may sound to some, because of the bi-directional properties in speakers and microphones, there is a premise for this idea. I am not an electrical engineer. I’m sure a person with the proper background in this field would quickly state that my idea has no foundation. But let me explain what eventually made me change my mind about the 2-way camera concept. It was when I realized the properties of vector graphics e.g. Flash, that I started to become a believer that maybe my monitor could be used as a 2-way camera.

Have you noticed how Flash movies are never pixelated or distorted when their size is increased or decreased? This is because unlike GIF’s, vector computer graphics are based on light and dimension. Or you could say a flash image is geometric formula that structurally connects size and structure of the objects characteristics with light intensity.

To further show my point, click the link below, which will open a simple flash movie still. Once the page opens, zoom in as many times as possible.

Alien Box

Ok, so what’s the big deal? You just showed us how to zoom-in.

That’s true. But realize that our plugin settings only allow for 3 zooms. This does not mean that it is not possible to configure the settings to allow for 1000’s of zooms. Plus, one of the most important factors. Flash vector graphics are programmable, with the ability to carry millions of layers within itself. Each pixel can contain millions of other objects in which data can be recorded, stored or whatever. In theory I believe it’s possible for vector graphics to use light as a conductor and be structured to create a optical component. Which then could be transmitted over the web. Each pixel could contain millions of strings or code that can connect to anything on the Internet. Sounds crazy!? Yeah, I understand. The real question is, do you have the courage to contemplate this idea as truth?
A very simplistic perspective to an extremely complex idea. So could this be possible? What do you think?

The Architectic vs. The Engineer - Is it necessary to choose a side?

Categories:

The architectic being the designer, and the engineer is of courser the site-structuring SEO specialist. Having been in both positions, it’s been my experience that both are important. But if I have to make a choice, I’ll take the traffic.

Eight years ago I would have never thought that search engine marketing would become so popular. But being popular doesn’t mean that the business population at large truely understand what it’s all about. There seems to be levels of transition for a traditional company to truely become web ready and take full advantage of the power of the web.

The first stage is, we need a website.

I think mostly everyone knows this now.

The second stage is, how do we get what we need?

This seems to be the stage most trip over. And this is because web marketing as a whole requires alot of know-how.(As quiet as it’s kept, you need more than a list of keywords to rank high.) And because of this it’s difficult to judge whose good and whose not.

iCrossing IMHO is definitely at the top of the heap in terms of delivering results that count to their clients. After reading a extremely well written article from Target Marketing - Battle of the Banks, it’s now appearent that search engine marketing now has a new defender of the craft. It also mentions the challenges iCrossing had with getting Bank of America to totally buy-in to the changes they recommended. I can definitely feel them there. It’s so very difficult to try and save a site when the stakeholders don’t know, what they don’t know.
The article is definitely worth the read and it shares alot of great insights to corporate politics, which in my opinion is one of the toughest segments to work in. I appreciated the positive light SEO was put in and the understanding of the article writer(Hallie Mummet). If I ever have the opportunity to be a feature story in Target marketing, I want Hallie to write my article.

Way to go iCrossing. You are doing it big, but you have the respect of the industry as well and in my opinion that is difficult to do. That’s the way we like it at ConvertorDie.com.
