Helping Kids with Math Work
Today after I came home from work I was recruited to help one of the twins, with her math homework. I have helped them before in the past and we had a pretty good system. You tell me what you are havinng problems with, and I will break it down so you can understand. The twins are in the 3rd grade and working with geometry already. Is this normal!? I thought they would be working with long mathmatics or something.
The crazy thing is that I didn’t know how to do some of my 8 year olds math problems. I’m thinking, If I can’t do it, what chance does an eight year old have. After a little while I started to get my legs back and figured out how to calculate the area of a circle and we finally finished. I was so relieved until she pulled out 6 pages of practice problems. I was like “This is for the entire week right!?”. She she “no it’s due tommorrow. LOL! I was like :what the????” She had like 50 problems on each sheet. LOL! I couldn’t belileve it.
Maybe I’m just not up on things. I asked my wife when did the twins math get so hardemanding? She just shook her head. School work is very important in our home. But I never thought in a million year that 3rd graders would be expected to complete work this demanding. It’s definitely time for a tutor. I was talking about for me.
